ALEXANDER & TOM, INC. DEVELOPS HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES’ WEBSITE FOR BULLYING RESOURCES

Alexander & Tom, Inc., a Baltimore-based interactive agency, announced today that they have created a new web presence for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Stop Bullying Now! campaign.
 
Stop Bullying Now! is a nationwide public awareness program that informs parents, educators, and children ages 7-12 about bullying issues, while striving to teach and provide information on how to avert bullying and resolve conflicts.  Stop Bullying Now! also urges children to play a key role in the prevention of bullying at their schools and other social activities and to “Take a Stand and Lend a Hand” when they see others being bullied.
 
The new and improved website includes a variety of resources for educators and parents, which consists of the following assets: online webisodes with animated characters; games; nationally-distributed radio, print, and televised public service announcements; illustrated books; and resource kits for educators and parents that are comprised of tip sheets and activity guides.  These tools are great resources for educators to use in the classroom, or for adults to use with their children at home.
 
This website could not come at a more appropriate time.  According to a recent study released in the Journal of Adolescent Medicine, verbal bullying is the most prevalent form of bullying, with 53% of children reporting being bullied verbally.  However, physical bullying and cyberbullying via cell phones and the internet are on the rise.  
 
“Bullying has been a constant presence in the news the past year, and bullying tactics are getting more serious” said Alexander & Tom President Billy Twigg.   “Children are not just name-calling these days, they are resorting to violence and online intimidation by “cyberbullying”.  We were very excited about working with HHS and doing our part to help spread the word on how kids along with their parents and teachers can prevent or solve some of these issues.”
 
The Stop Bullying Now! website is fun, yet informative.  The new website gives children a place to turn to, and it helps them realize that they are not alone.
