Carolyn E. Fugett Elevating Black Creative Scholarship 

Aspiring Black creatives are often underrepresented in our industry—especially in Baltimore where 63% of the community is Black. However, we believe that with your talent, ambition, and dedication, you can make a difference and transform your career dreams into your dream career. If you're a Black student currently enrolled student at a college or university in Maryland and are pursuing a creative field in advertising, experience design, branding, or emergent tech while enrolled in college, we encourage you to apply.

The Carolyn E. Fugett Elevating Black Creative Scholarship is a $4,000, unrestricted award supported by AAFB, Three Seas, and REJ Associates. To be considered for this $4,000.00 scholarship, a student must meet the following qualifications:  

Eligibility

  • Identify as Black

  • Be a full-time undergraduate student in good academic and social standing with a minimum 3.0 GPA 

  • Be a currently enrolled student at a college or university in Maryland; having completed at least the sophomore year of undergraduate studies or the first year of portfolio or graduate school

  • Be pursuing a creative-focused role in design, marketing, or advertising, including but not limited to graphic design, UX, public relations, strategy, content creation, etc.

  • Preference will be given to students who are members of an AAF chapter

Requirements

  • Must be Black, non-Hispanic

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • 3-4 work samples and an essay expressing your interest in advertising or a related field are required (min 300 words)

  • Copy of academic transcript (current overall GPA of 3.0 or higher) required

  • ​​Inclusion of references is optional

Carolyn E. Fugett was a celebrated Baltimorean who supported past AAFB Scholarships. The mother of noted philanthropist and entrepreneur Reginald F. Lewis and five other high-achieving children, Carolyn passed away in 2023 at the age of 87.
