The Wendy & Matt McDermott Social Impact Scholarship honors student creatives who use their talents to uplift communities, inspire action, and spark empathy. Whether you’ve built campaigns for nonprofits, crafted stories that educate and empower, or used design to drive civic engagement, this award celebrates your purpose-driven work.

This scholarship is proudly funded by Wendy & Matt McDermott, who believe that creativity should serve the greater good.​​

Eligibility

​

• U.S. citizen

• Enrolled full- or part-time as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior at a Maryland college or university

• Minimum GPA 3.0

• Pursuing a career in advertising, design, or marketing

• Demonstrates meaningful involvement in social impact work

Requirements

​

• Personal essay (300+ words) on how you’ve used creativity to support civic, nonprofit, or educational initiatives, and why it matters to you

• Copy of academic transcript (min GPA 3.0)

• Optional: 1–2 work samples showcasing your impact-driven creativity

• Optional: Letters of reference
